New car owners can expect to wait until the end of the year until supply to dealerships starts to improve, with production in some global markets down by up to 40 per cent.

Australian Automotive Dealers Association CEO Brian Savage said the wait time for new car models is now more than 12 months, with new car costs up 25 per cent, and used cars 50 per cent.

“Sometimes the dealers don’t know themselves, there’s just so much uncertainty in the world markets in production at the moment,” he told Gareth Parker.

Listener Trish told 6PR Mornings her daughter-in-law has been waiting 13 months for her Suzuki Jimny and had another frustrating setback overnight.

“She lives in Broome, she teed up her holiday to come down to Perth so she could pick the car up and drive it back,” she said.

“Up until a week ago it was ready, and last night on the phone the gentleman couldn’t even tell her if it was in WA.”
