Armadale program launches in fight against domestic violence
The City of Armadale has launched a new collaborative program called ‘Choose Change’, aimed at helping to reduce domestic violence in the community.
Participants and facilitators will work together closely in risk assessment and safety planning, as well as providing tools to improve perpertrator behaviour.
James McLaren, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant told Gary Adshead that domestic violence is one of the toughest issues for police to attend to.
“Quiet often when we turn up to the job, it is not the first occasion it has occurred so it is very difficult,” he told Gary.
Three years ago, Armadale had some of the highest rates of domestic violence in Western Australia, prompting a string of initiatives like ‘Safe and Together’ and ‘Choose Change’.
“These programs look at the perpetrator and how we can change their behvaiour and how make them accountable for their behaviour.”
