Another round 0f 30-plus degree days means the summer months are quickly approaching, but are we prepared despite knowing how prevalent skin cancer is in Australia?

Cancer Council WA SunSmart Manager Sally Blane told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons we are all aware of the dangers, but are commonly misinformed about specific causes of skin cancer.

“For instance we know today’s 36 degrees, and the UV is around 9; what a lot of people forget is that it will be 27 degrees tomorrow, but the UV will still be just as high,” Ms Blane said.

“We think about it more on hot days like today, but we need to remember that cooler days are just as dangerous.”
