The United Nations Attorney-General Antonio Guterras’s comments that we have now reached the “global boiling” point, state governments across Australia are likely to take on unprecedented measures to curb rapidly increasing temperatures.

The Victorian Government has launched their plan to phase out gas connections to homes, with the aim to have all future homes using all-electric power from January next year.

RMIT Centre for Urban Research Associate Professor Joe Hurley told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR MorningsĀ it’s what to be expected from governments which have committed to at least attempting to deal with climate change.

“I can’t speak for all governments, but this is a very strong signal that gas is not going to be the fuel of choice in the housing sector,” Professor Hurley said.
