Aus Open spectators detained after pro-Russian flag uproar
Four Australian Open spectators were evicted from Melbourne Park last night and are being questioned by police after waving banned Russian flags and threatening security.
The group unfurled the flags on the steps between Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena after the men’s quarter final match between Russia’s Andrey Rublev and Serbian Novak Djokovic and chanted in support of Russia.
Today Show reporter, Christine A’hern, told 6PR Breakfast one of the Russian flags bared the image of Vladimir Putin, as the Russian supporters were aiming to make a political statement.
