Sean Turnell and his wife Ha Vu were reunited in Melbourne after his two years behind bars as a political prisoner in Myanmar.

Turnell was released from jail as part of an amnesty by the ruling military junta, after intervention by Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese.

Economist and friend Tim Harcourt told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings there was much joy in the Turnell camp after the PM turned the screws on his release.

“I spoke to his wife this morning, I’ve never heard anyone so excited, you know, and relieved, in her voice,” he said.
