Author, former AMA President, and independent politician Dr. Kerryn Phelps AM has had an illustrious career spanning multiple industries, contributing to various aspects of the community.

Dr Phelps told Chrissy Morrissy on 6PR Afternoons, “There’s no question that there was a theme of community service in my family, my parents are very much involved in community organisation and volunteering. Politics was something that came to me later after I graduated from Medicine and saw the impact of the political system on the way we were able to deliver healthcare.”

“I saw a need for change or I saw an opportunity to contribute in some way to the community, and I did what needed to be done because I was in a position to do it.”

“I think it’s really important you take the good with the bad, and that if there is a difficult or bad experience, I think it’s really important to understand that every poster isn’t going to be a winner,” Dr Phelps said.
