‘Banksia Hell’: experts slam government’s dumping of Tim Marney
The State Government’s decision to not renew the contract of the man responsible for overhauling WA’s ruined detention system is being seen as a frustrating abandonment of responsibility.
Tim Marney was contracted by the State Government to implement new plans to run Banksia Hill as well as other detention centres, yet has now been dropped under the pretense he has “completed his role managing the initial stage of the implementation”.

Inspector of Custodial Services Eamon Ryan told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings he will be contacting the Department of Justice for an explanation.
“At the time I thought it was a great appointment, and I was really encouraged that someone of Tim’s expertise was going to lead the implementation,” Mr Ryan said.
