BREAKING: a 16-year-old detainee was found unresponsive in his cell in Banksia Hill’s Unit 18 last night.

Premier Roger Cook has described the event as “Incredibly regrettable and deeply distressing”.

The Police Minister is adamant that a youth detention cell at an adult prison is safe, after a 16 year-old boy was found unresponsive.

The Aboriginal teenager was located by custodial officers during a check around 2 o’clock this morning.

He was given CPR, before paramedics arrived and took him to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
