A Bayswater man has sounded a warning to those randomly selected to complete a ‘Voluntary Population Survey’ as part of last year’s five-yearly census.

‘Peter’ told 6PR Mornings that he arrived home on Tuesday to find two Australian Bureau of Statistics workers in his driveway regarding his inability to complete the survey, with a warning he will be fined $222 for each day past the due date of September 25 it was late.

“You’re compelled to participate in the survey every month for eight months,” he told host Liam Bartlett.

The ABS said in a statement that “fines are a last resort”.
