Belmont Councillor Resigns After Assault Conviction
City of Belmont councillor Tamak Vijay, who was convicted of assaulting three women, has resigned from his position. Following his initial conviction, the council maintained that there were no grounds for his disqualification.
6PR Mornings host Gary Adshead broke the news and asked Lisa Hollands, President of the Belmont Resident and Ratepayer Action Group, about the residents’ reaction.
“It is good news for the residents because there was a lot of angst in the community, particularly among women, having him there,” she said.
