‘Biggest threat since WWII’: Australian Government to ramp up cybersecurity
The federal government is calling in some of the world’s leading experts to devise a cybersecurity strategy to prevent a repeat of this year’s Optus and Medibank attacks that led to the private data of millions of Australians being stolen and leaked online.
Home Affairs and Cybersecurity Minister, Clare O’Neil has called this the biggest threat to Australia since WWII.
Paul Haskell Brown, Professor of Cyber Security Practice at Edith Cowan University told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that as individuals we are at great risk of a compromise in our personal data.
“I think as Claire mentioned we have been sleep walking our way into this situation, taking cybersecurity for granted,” he told Oliver Peterson.
“Going back to the concept of who we are dealing with, I think 10-20 years ago we may have thought about an individual – but it has actually become much more commercialised.”
