Evidence that BMI is a poor indicator of disease and mortality risk is now overwhelming and is prompting a radical rethink about the association between weight and health at the highest levels of medicine.

Accredited Practising Dietician and Chief Health Officer at Healthy Life Simone Austin spoke with Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR’s Afternoons.

“BMI doesn’t allow for different ethnic backgrounds, male and female differences…it doesn’t even account for muscle mass,” Ms Ausin said.
