Books and bricks: Tradies ordered to pass reading, maths tests
Apprentice tradies will be tested for reading, maths and digital skills before they start work under training reforms to be announced in the federal budget.
National Apprentice Employment Network CEO Dianne Dayhew told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the completion of trade apprenticeships were dropping, mostly because of a lack of basic education.
“It’s a check-in with them, just to make sure they have the foundational skills that they need, and that they understand what they’re going to need,” Ms Dayhew said.
“I think it’s important to remember when you start an apprenticeship, there’s an expectation that you have those skills before you start.”
