Breaching lockdown – Is it stupidity or weariness?

Emeritus Professor Stephen Leeder said the intention is good but there’s a danger of public weariness setting in.

“Fundamentally people need to know why they are being asked to do these things.

“In general terms, the level of communication is good but that doesn’t mean everyone is hearing it or that everybody is being brought along with the policy makers.

“We know from the background of health promotion over things like immunisation or quitting smoking that you need a combination of quite sophisticated advertising, education and law enforcement to bring the situation into one where there is much greater control.”
