Ash Barty has shocked the tennis world and sports fans around the globe by announcing her retirement from the sport she has dominated for the past two years.

The world No.1 announced the news on Wednesday via her social media accounts.

Barty, 25, is the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion and departs the sport at the peak of her powers

She also won the French Open in 2019.

“It’s hard to say but I’m so happy, I’m so ready and I just know in the moment in my heart, that this is right,” Barty said.
