A Perth Live listener reported that some thermometer and blood glucose machine suppliers won’t provide their products to WA anymore due to the new button battery rules coming into force this week.

The button battery rule bans retailers from selling products that do not have a secure battery compartment on it in order to prevent serious injury and death of children.

Trish Blake from Consumer Protection told Oliver Peterson that the rule was originally announced in December 2020 to give businesses an 18 month transition period to prepare.
