Caged egg ban will hit farmers and prices hard, industry claims
Government Ministers are set to discuss the planned timeline for phasing out caged eggs, but farmers are warning they could take a significant hit if the deadline is pushed back.
The Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry have recommended legislation against caged eggs to come in 2036, rather than the original date of 2046.
Commercial Egg Producers Association WA President Ian Wilson told Millsy and Mick onĀ 6PR Breakfast the industry understood the drive to discontinue cage egg farming, but said the plans could see egg prices skyrocket.
