Calls for team sports to be modified for older Aussies
New research shows modified sports with shorter game times and more focus on fun than winning could be key to encouraging older Australians to play sports.
Flinders University PhD candidate Crossman told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons participation in sports declines in adulthood mostly due to time constraints, risks of injury and illness.
Ms Crossman noted that it is important for sports organisations to “reconsider how sport is offered to adults.”
She encouraged them to look at how children’s sport is modified as it “gradually builds up to the full game.”
