Pay for volunteer firefighters is being considered in a bid to reduce reliance on the defence force for disaster response but the state’s association for volunteer firies says it would prefer to see the introduction of greater opportunities for volunteers who want to progress as a career firefighter.

Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services Association WA CEO Tim Fonsee told Oliver Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live it’s important for volunteer firies to not be left out of pocket when they serve their communities.
