Australian golfer Cameron Smith has won his first major golf title, taking out the 150th edition of The Open Championship at St Andrews.
Golf Australia High-Performance Manager Tony Meyers told 6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker that he has known Cam Smith since he was a junior.

“He always had that competitive spirit, that bit of mongrel in him and to see what he’s done overnight is a really proud moment.”

Cam Smith made six birdies on the back nine to come from behind and win the 2022 British Open.
He finished one clear of American Cameron Young and two ahead of Rory McIlroy.
Paddy Sweeney told Gareth Parker the win made for ‘unbelievable scenes’.
“What a final round, after the disappointment of the 73 on Saturday, to come out and eight-under and just tear up the course,” he said.
“We love a champion Gareth, but we absolutely love a humble champion, and that is Cam Smith.”
