A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital after his car crashed into the Swan River.

It happened just after 4am along The Esplanade in Peppermint Grove.

The man was reportedly standing on top of the vehicle while Emergency Services worked to save him.

Nine News reporter Ezra Holt told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the vehicle crashed through the barrier and travelled some distance into the river.
