Cash must be king, Italian PM tells shoppers

The country is set to use more cash and fewer credit cards, bucking a global trend towards electronic currency, after Italian PM Giorgia Meloni dismissed card payments as “private money”.
“She’s included a rule for businesses and shopkeepers to refuse cards and demand cash for payments [up to 60 euros],” Millsy told co-host Karl on 6PR Breakfast.

“I went to a pub the other day, a PUB and tried to pay in cash and they said ‘sorry we don’t take cash’.”
Karl says a lot of people are living beyond their means so fiscally the policy is sound.
“It actually would be a sensible way to govern, if you think about it,” he said.
