China relations strained as bounties issued on democracy activists

Hong Kong Police have broken new ground in the crackdown on pro-democracy activists, issuing bounties of one million Hong Kong dollars on demonstrators who fled recent government-led suppressions.

The bounty will potentially be paid to whoever can apprehend a number of activists including Melbourne-based lawyer Kevin Yam.

Mr Yam told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings said he found out about the bounty via social media, and wasn’t particularly worried about it.

“I think anyone who decides to speak out about Hong Kong has got to be mindful of the possibility of a day like this,” Mr Yam said.
