Perth and the South West has been hit by heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms as a cold front has swept through part of the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology released a severe weather warning for damaging winds and locally destructive winds along the west coast.

Duty forecaster from The Bureau of Meteorology, Luke Huntington, told Julie-Anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons the winds will be making their way through metro area this afternoon.

“Once that goes through, the damaging wind risks reduces but the winds will continue to be quite squally,

“So it’s still going to be quite wet and windy throughout a remainder of the afternoon.
