Coles Express goes solo, breaking the fortnightly fuel price cycle
Coles Express have moved to weekly price cycles and are now out of sync with other fuel stations, selling their fuel at 20 or 30 cents above the average in Perth.
Stephan Moir, CEO OF Motor Trade Association WA is accusing Coles Express of trying to reduce competition and monopolize the market, by breaking the fortnightly price cycle with a big increase in the price of Unleaded overnight.
“This is just outrageous. It is totally unjustified. In a week where we have seen the wholesale fuel price drop by 3 cents, Coles take it upon themselves to jack it up 39,” he told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live.
“The reality unfortunately with Coles, is that I think their long term goal is to dominate the market and get control of it. So it is really important we keep the small, independent, free thinking retailers out there so that consumers have a choice.”
