The South Fremantle Power Station has been sitting idle for more than three decades with no future plans in sight.

Colin Barnett, Former WA Premier told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live it is time for the station to be demolished.

“It’s a Power Station that has simply out-lived its life. There’s a lot of contamination around the site, some that was cleaned up by Western Power at a considerable expense, ” he told Oly.

“The McGowan Government genuinely has tried to find a use for it, but I think the reality is, it’s a massive building that’s been closed for 40 years. It’s declining, there’s concrete cancers through it and I imagine to try and save that building will cost tens and tens of millions of dollars.”
