Could psychedelic mushrooms be the answer to treating depression?
Hallucinogenic therapy using mushrooms could soon be available for Australians with depression.
Tania De Jong, the executive director of Mind Medicine Australia spoke with Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings about a fascinating new body of research from the Imperial College London. Their results show how a psychedelic compound in mushrooms could “rewire” the human brain to treat depression in a more effective way than conventional drugs.
“It creates a window where the brain can become more flexible, where skilled therapists can then work with the patient, with that window to fast track the healing process” said Ms De Jong
Hallucinogenic therapy has been frowned upon by researchers since the 1960’s, however with new research proving its effectiveness, Mind Medicine Australia is putting their foot forward to bring this therapy to Aussie shores.
