A community project has launched in the regional town of Darkan to buy, renovate and re-open The Darkan Pub following it’s closure in March.

The lease was not renewed for the local pub, leading to the locking of it’s doors and the community pub-less.

“It certainly is the life blood of our small country town, it had a negative impact on our community when it shut in March,” Karen Harrington, Darkan Hotel Community Project organiser told Oliver Peterson onĀ Perth Live.

“We are small town with only a couple hundred people, the pub was our meeting place, it was inter-generational – there was so many different groups of people that used it and being closed meant we haven’t seen those people around.”

“So we want to take ownership of it and see if we can make it into something great.”

Karen and the Darkan community are hoping to make their project a success by getting as many people involved as they can.
