Developers the only winners in ‘broken’ infill housing plan
The Mark McGowan Government announced 5000 new dwellings would be created in established Perth suburbs to boost density and slow the city’s urban sprawl six years ago.
Since then, zero of those houses have been built and, as Member for Fremantle and former Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt told Gary Adshead, it’s only furthered Perth’s urban sprawl.

“This goes back more than ten years ago, which is why blaming Covid doesn’t make sense,” Mr Pettitt said.
It is easier to do what you have always done, and infill is complicated, but this is where the government has such an integral role.”
