The level of accusations between federal politicians and the use of parliamentary privilege reached “unprecedented”  levels this week with the allegations against Senator David Van reaching boiling point.

On the day a third allegation of sexual assault was levelled at Senator Van, the Federal Senate has been filled with debate over the airing of grievances and allegations as government business.

Australian national editor Dennis Shanahan told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings it appears Canberra is woefully underprepared to deal with the situation.

“It is clear we’ve reached a new level – or new low, if you like – in the way that Parliament is dealing with these allegations of sexual assault that should be dealt with either within the workplace or with the police,” Mr Shanahan said.
