Dispelling misconceptions about lowering the drinking age
A recent survey showed that 40 per cent of Aussie parents think it would be acceptable to lower the drinking age to 17.
Dr Ashlea Bartram from Flinders University explained to 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Mick that it is a misconception that learning about alcohol appreciation at an early age will discourage binge drinking.
“Those people who start drinking young are more likely to go on and drink in risky ways as they get older,” she said
