Experts are calling for the government to overhaul the Australian Seafood industry and specifically ensure consumers can identify where their seafood is from before purchasing. 

Minderoo Foundation’s Flourishing Oceans Governance and Policy Manager Emily Harrison told Jamie Burnett on 6PR Perth Live there must be greater clarity for consumers.

“Australia doesn’t have any comprehensive regulatory framework to ensure that these products are legally caught or where they come from,” Ms Harrison said. 

“We are doing a lot internationally but there’s really not enough regulation and information when it comes to our seafood and what we’re purchasing as consumers”.
