Kate Young explained to 6PR’s Chrissy Morrissy how she felt intimidated by a drone while swimming near Whitfords Beach until she realised that the drone wasn’t watching her; it was tracking a tiger shark.

“I saw the fin of the tiger shark come up from the water, and I know what dolphins look like – I’ve swum with them plenty in the same area. That was not a dolphin,” she said.

Chrissy then spoke to the drone owner who was tracking the tiger shark.

Curtis Ramsay, a wildlife videographer and drone owner, explained that he has noticed a significant increase in the number of sharks in the area, swimming close to shore and swimmers.

“I think more people need to be aware, especially along the dog beach, particularly when they’ve got kids splashing about and playing in the water,” he said.
