The issue of food waste has moved into the spotlight after Fremantle City councilor Rachel Pemberton was filmed dumpster diving.

In the vision, Cr Pemberton is seen looking through a bin behind Woolworths in South Fremantle.

She reportedly took some mince and yoghurt.

CEO and Founder of OzHarvest – an organisation proving food relief – Ronni Kahn, said the cost of living is hurting people.

“We have a growing list of charities that need food,” she told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.

“We deliver food to over 2000 charities across Australia … in every state (there’s) a waiting list.

“What we know is that customers to us, to all the charities we support, have gone up by about 30 per cent in the last three months.”
