Several people are feared injured after a boating accident at the Kimberley tourist attraction Horizontal Falls.

Police and emergency services are at the remote scene north-east of Broome.

There were up to 25 people on the boat, which capsized in the remote waterway around 8.30am on Friday.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service is attending and a WA Country Health Service spokeswoman said hospitals in the region were on standby to receive patients from the scene, with Broome Health Campus activating an emergency alert in anticipation. A WA Police spokeswoman said several people on board were believed to be injured.

Derby/West Kimberley Shire president Geoff Haerewa told Millsy at Midday host Steve Mills the boat hit the rocks and capsized.

“Thankfully there are no fatalities … I’ll leave the name of the tour operator out of it for now.”

Boat tours through the falls created by tidal flows in Talbot Bay – dubbed one of the world’s greatest natural wonders by broadcaster David Attenborough – are one of the region’s most popular tourist attractions.
