The Australian Defense Force is stuck in a cycle of obsolescence, with the latest purchase of outdated Apache helicopters the latest in a long history of equipment being redundant by the time it reaches our shores, experts are warning.

Strategic Analysis Australia Heads of Research Marcus Hellyer told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the country’s defense forces are “stuck in the past” when it comes to adapting to modern challenges.

“It’s pretty hard to believe, but I think it’s pretty accurate,” Dr Hellyer said.

“We’ve got to move to a more modern process that ensures our forces are up to date; we can see from Ukraine and the Red Sea that Australian defense just doesn’t stack up.”
