The federal government is demanding an explanation from Israel over the death of an Australian aid worker in Gaza.

Zomi Frankcom was killed in apparent Israeli airstrike while providing food assistance in Gaza.

Israel is investigating the incident, which has claimed the lives of five aid workers.
