EXCLUSIVE: $100 million Fremantle film studio has been secretly scrapped

Article image for EXCLUSIVE: $100 million Fremantle film studio has been secretly scrapped

The State Government’s plans for a $100 million world-class film studio at Victoria Quay in Fremantle have been secretly shelved.

It’s been exactly a year since Premier Mark McGowan made the election promise to build the project within two years.

It has now been revealed by Mark Gibson on The Catch-Up that logistical issues and a budget blowout have put the project on ice.

President of the Fremantle Society, John Dowson told Mark Gibson Victoria Quay was never the correct location.

“The film experts we spoke to all said that it’s not a suitable location… We hope it goes ahead somewhere else, but certainly, Victoria Quay is such a small site. It was just inappropriate,” he explained.
