EXCLUSIVE: Danny Hodgson details brave ordeal to survive CBD bashing
One-punch assault victim Danny Hodgson says he could not have recovered from critical injuries after being punched in an unprovoked attack near the Perth train station in September last year without the support of West Australians.
The ECU soccer player from the UK fought for his life for three months, and now has an ongoing battle to get back on his feet and walk unassisted, through intensive physio and rehabilitation.
In his first live interview since the horrific attack, Hodgson (below) told 6PR Breakfast host Mark Gibson, in for Gareth Parker this week, the overwhelming support from WA locals kept his spirits high during his long recovery from extensive brain injuries.
“Without the people of Western Australia, I’d be in a different situation at the moment,” he said on Friday, with his father Peter by his side in the studio (see image above).
Hodgson can’t work with his current injuries, and requires ongoing treatment and rehabilitation, with a golf day in October hoping to raise much-needed funds for his future.
“The donations from the people of Western Australia has helped me massively,” Hodgson said.
Danny’s parents are still in Perth after eventually arriving here after the attack, supporting their son and his partner Jess Pollock in the next phase of their life.
