Expert calls for complete cigarette ban in 10 years time
A tobacco researcher says it’s time to start looking at setting a date to ban cigarette retail sales, and says 10 years “seems like a good time frame”.
Senior Researcher at the Menzies School of Health Research Dr Marita Hefler says there also needs to be a plan in place to help retailers deal with declining cigarette sales.
“It’s something they’re going to face in the future,” she told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.
“So why not be proactive now about supporting them to make that transition as smoothly as possible.”
