Locals have voiced concerns after it took authorities over two hours to close Mullaloo Beach following a swimmer’s close encounter with a shark.

6PR Breakfast hosts Mick and Mark spoke with Dr Leonardo Guida, Shark Scientist and Marine Biologist, about the issue.

Dr Guida pointed out that the presence of sharks is a positive sign, indicating a healthy ocean. He emphasised that the community should focus on education and awareness to ensure people have a healthy respect for the creature.

“The reality is, if you dip your finger in water and it tastes like salt, there’s probably sharks in there. More often than not, they’ve seen you and don’t care about it,” he said.
