Western Australia may be falling behind the eastern states on overhauling old building laws says legal expert Bronwyn Weir from Weir Legal and Consulting.

A 2017 report found WA needed to do more work to strengthen their compliance and enforcement framework.

Ms Weir told Julie-Anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons, WA hasn’t done very much.

Press PLAY to hear how WA is lagging behind in building laws

“They’ve sought input from stakeholders around potential reforms, including introducing things like mandatory inspections,” Ms Weir said.

“But they haven’t actually followed through with creating those new requirements in the scheme.”
