A potentially dangerous and manipulative religious cult masquerading as a religious organisation is establishing a strong presence in WA universities, and parents are now warning of how insidious it can get.

The Shincheonji Church of Jesus – otherwise known as the “Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony” – was established in Lee Man-hee in 1984, and has since developed an international reputation for aggressive conversion tactics and secrecy.

A father of a current member told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings he has strived to get information on the group  but has been rebuffed numerous times.

“I don’t even know if my daughter would think the tithes are going straight to the church’s coffers, or maybe it’s in another bank account somewhere else,” he said.
