‘Fantastic news for Australia’: China lifts 80 per cent barley tariff
China will lift trade restrictions on Australian barley from the fifth of August. The 80 per cent tariff was first imposed in 2020, as diplomatic relations spiralled.
Curtin University supply chain expert Dr Elizabeth Jackson spoke with Oly Peterson on Perth Live.
“It’ll increase market diversity for the Chinese uses of barley but it’s also going to grease the wheels of the Australian economy,” she said.

“It’s absolutely fantastic because we’re back in the market to be able to sell our barley to one of our very very important customers,”
