The proposed changes to the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act continue to cause frustrated confusion in rural areas, with a town hall meeting held in Northam this week not mending the fences between farmers and the State Government.

Northam Mayor Chris Antonio told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Breakfast it’s in no-one’s interest to flaunt the law, but they’d hoped they would have more clarity on where they stand in agricultural processes.

Toodyay farmer Tony Maddox’s farm is bisected by a creek, and is currently being prosecuted under the original Act.

He told Simon Beaumont he was “fed up” with being treated secondarily by the State Government, despite their own wishes to protect Aboriginal cultural sites.
