Fill up now: fuel prices to hit record highs in Perth
The average price of unleaded petrol will top 208.9c per litre in Perth tomorrow, and the highest price will be an eye-watering $2.28 at BP in Langford.
It smashes the previous average record of $1.95, which we hit in February, and comes as major retailers including Ampol and Viva shunned Russian oil cargoes over the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
It’s prompted Fuel Watch to warn WA drivers to fill up now – with the price in the metro area today averaging 179.1 – the lowest point of the fortnightly cycle.
Motor Trades Association WA CEO Stephen Moir told Perth Live’s Oliver Peterson, the price pain is only going to get worse.
“I’d have to say brace yourself, we’ve seen a 10 cent increase in the wholesale price just in the last week,” he said.
“I would not be surprised if we start to see – if this Ukrainian crisis continues for a couple more months – $2.30, $2.40 as a regular pricing point.”
