A male lion and his four cubs have escaped their closure at Taronga Zoo in Sydney causing a sitewide lockdown.

Four of the five cubs returned to their closure by themselves, however, one cub took a little more effort to return.

6PR and Nine News reporter Ruth Wynn Williams told 6PR Millsy at Midday host Steve Mills zoo officials are concerned about how the lions escaped their enclosure.

“They are very very concerned with how this breach was able to happen,” said Ms Williams.
