Forestry specialist questions the Forestry Minister’s claims that huge stockpiles of timber in the state’s South West, captured in drone images, have an allocated use, suggesting this is a sign of a supply chain failure.

Independent forester Gavin Butcher, formerly from the Forest Products Commission, explains to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that the piles of timber are a result of the ecological thinning plan and he believes that the wood is going to waste.

“According to the DBCA numbers, there’s at least 500,000 tonnes of wood to come out every year, and that’s more than when they actually closed the industry down,” he said.
