Former Wallabies captain and current Independent Senator for the ACT David Pocock has backed Fremantle Football Club’s potential axing of Woodside as a major sponsor, saying the company’s position is opposite to the progressive, inclusive nature of the AFL.

Mr Pocok told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings Woodside has no credible plans to reduce emissions to decarbonize at a time where we’re seeing the effects of of climate change.

This is something that threatens our way of life. It threatens sport is, threatens all the people in places we love,” Mr Pocock said.

“We know that Fossil fuel companies like Woodside are using sport as a way to extend their social licence at a time when they absolutely should be reducing emissions.”
